Why stop at films? How many creepy stalker anthems have made their way from the top 40 to the first dance at weddings? It's probably at least as much driven by broken concepts of romance as driving them.

That Cure song is truly dreadful for that. Also everything Adele does (musically, a guilty pleasure...lyrically awooga awooga get the crazy lady away) and that Gotye song I came to months after everyone else.

So many bloody g*th records. I had to review an entire CD of passive-aggressive mithering about the chap's exes for, er, Legends. I think that's why I listen to so much BoC these days. And Pye Corner Audio, who is/are very good.

I'm sure that somewhere there's a canonical list of horrible songs that people sincerely find incredibly romantic - offhand Every Breath You Take, You're Gorgeous, Pretty in Pink and The One I Love spring to mind.

Not that I mind creepy songs as long as people realise that's what they are. It's just a bit depressing every time I find out the extent to which they don't.
