Upside - had mad idea, coded up mad idea, mad idea works.

Downside - brain fried again.

I mean, the mad idea and chums should be enough, right? I made a thing. It will make part of work less horrible and is a demonstration of remote wossname and making stupid people someone else's problem.

But still...

I think it was more a case of having wound a big and heavy flywheel up to speed in order to cope with the Continuous Interruption/Continual Distraction antipattern and be able to emit code in the ten-minute segments it seems I'm allowed.

You can't just turn that off without breaking some other bits of the mechanism. Thus while the drive is spinning down, there's still some drag on the driven bits.

Isn't 'How To Operate With A Blown Mind' both a decent album and a mantra for life? This week I have mostly enjoyed doing stuff when I really ought to be in bed, and seeing how tired I can be whilst remining employable, which has resulted, unexpectedly, in some rather fine stream-of-conscious lecturing and Albini-sainting.

if your brain feels fried it's probably because it got used. That's just the smell of the dust burning off the valves.

I am genuinely surprised I managed to cope with work going Horribly Wrong while staggering out of the tail end of a proper grownup chuck-yerself-off-things depressive episode. I would have expected to crash and burn big style, but that didn't happen. And in fact I hauled out of the mess a short story I'm particularly proud of and a presentation-to-hackers that I think I could have done better, yet I also think said a bunch of stuff which is becoming A Thing. At my advanced age it is Fucking Cool to find a set of new things to be good at and enthusiastic about.

That last sentence is my current revelation. I thought I was done with that rockstar being on tour thing, but we tweaked the parameters, got in the f'in' van and went on our this weekend - only it was a 3-day arts festival where we just happened to sofa-surf with some absolutely incredible creative folks. Same vibe, different field. And it occurred to me that Doing The Thing is indeed Fucking Cool, but Sharing The Thing with others who Do Similar Things... well, that's just bliss.

Not much beats an evening in a BrewDog pub with sparky likeminded souls who aren't averse to creating temporary autonomous zones as a viable alternative to changing the world.
