Do you mean "heavy water" -- apparently the weight difference isn't that much (hold on -- um... 1/10th extra approx I guess if I remember my periodic table right).

Not only that, a gieger counter would be useless with deuterium or heavy water. It doesn't detect them, you need a scintillation counter.

Duh! Did I say scintillation counter, I meant to say mass spectrometer. I stayed up too late making sure those Americans did the right thing.

Deuterium doesn't decay, it's stable, I was getting it confuddled with Tritium. Need coffee!!!

It's stable but it does decay (slowly) to ordinary hydrogen.

Heavy water is not entirely good for you, the main effect in small quantities being to drop the blood pressure.
