Rock around the dock
Nov. 27th, 2007 04:13 pmI've jabbered on about Caribou in the past. Probably when he/they were still called Manitoba, so before some has-been old sod from a no-mark pub rock combo threw a benny about the name.
Anyway. They've played in Bristol previously and I've been too slack or skint to go along. Also, the CDs are pretty much laptop-psych-pop, yet the Youtube[1] footage is of four blokes on real instruments bashing out near-perfect versions of what's on CD. And they're not miming like some rubbish g*ths.
They were really quite sodding excellent and it's a right mad old racket and mish-mash of drone-rock, psychedelia, laptop noodling, krautgubbins and a set of other things that makes a chap grin like an idiot and jump up and down with glee.
They also seem to be touring near-permanently, so I suggest you go view them sharpish. And buy all their records and stuff.
The Thekla's a rather fine venue, too. If very reminiscent of being at a gig in the deep-level tube system. Smelled like it on occasion, too. Must be the magic of cold air blown through rusty pipework or something.
Meanwhile, the internet provides many fine things to goggle at.
