It's quite strange how the simple act of putting on some running footwear, rather than one's usual climbing boots, instantly makes a chap look like he follows Anthrax rather than Joy Division.

Is that because Anthrax run faster?

Careful now, one careless slip of a lipstick and you'll be lurching into Wobbly Bob territory...

I've noticed that. The supplanting of of my buckled docs or jack boots with trainers results in an immediate shift from "Oi! Gothic! Cheer up!" to "daaah daaah dahh METAAAHL YEAH \m/"

As far as one of the security guards at work (a nice mob, as it happens) is concerned, my name is "OZZIEE!!"

This first registered with me in 1991. Or indeed 1990 or 1989.

Oh, indeed. The black jeans/white trainers thing is very 80s metal/hardcore. In fact it's pretty much only Anthrax, I think.

Imagine the horror if it were Saxon...

But, onstage Anthrax tend to wear skater baggy shorts (at least they do in summer) with their trainers.

If Saxon didn't do it, did those who followed them do so?
I know a lot of Motorhead fans in the US had the black jeans/white trainers look back in the 1980's.

Big white HiTec hitops, black jeans and a Maiden or Anthrax t-shirt. Welcome to me, circa age 16 ... no wonder I was single for a while - short hair, you see! It was the classic NWOBHM look.

Saxon tend more towards blue denim, and denim waistcoats over biker jackets - after all, as the song has it "Denim and leather ... keep us all together." But then, I quite like Saxon.

I do also have a pair of skate jams (but they're Clawfinger ones) ... rarely wear them, though, as the pocket contents always falls out when I sit down. But now I have the Utility Belt I picked up for Whitby ... hmmm ...

I'd have to jog up it to reboot the DNS server.
