Buy my rubbish old CDs.

Edit: "I have a number of CDs that I do not listen to any more - I am selling them off at very reasonable prices, do have a look and see if any take your fancy"

Rubbish? That Miranda Sex Garden one is brilliant! I've already got it though.

I take it they're 100% hateful ?

Did he pay you to say that? ;-)

At least half of those CDs are great! Not rubbish!!

Sadly, I already have all the ones I'd like... but how can you sell "Snuff Said"? I haven't got it to hand, but isn't that the one with the "Bran Flakes" advert on it?

I, however, haven't...

I've got to balance that against Not Spending Money though.

:p

I see I'm going to have to go through the list and explain bits of it.

The MSG was from a period when I was listening to, well, no bloody g*th rubbish at all. IIRC it was equal amounts Orbital, Catherine Wheel and Balanescu Quartet (and skronk techno and Underworld and... Oh bugger). Steve, who I shared a house with 93-94, really liked it. I thought the first track was ok, but the rest of the thing went downhill. Of course now that I listen to the thing for the first time in eleven years, it's with different ears. I might yet de-list it.

The Snog was a definite mistake. I have no real idea why people rate the bloke so much. It's the canonical INDUSTRAIL(tm) bus-station-nutter vox with a twiddly backing that's not quite good enough to be techno. I've MP3ed the Severed Heads remix; the rest can go.

Battery? I tried, really. My God but that young woman's got a voice powerful enough to slice concrete, but the rest of the production's so dry it's like chewing cardboard.

The rest of it falls squarely into 'one good track' or 'Haven't listened to it in 10 years, clearly don't give a bugger'

How about I don't sell that one and make an 'evaluation' copy?

Yes. None of them are Richard Music. In fact you've been rude about several before now.

IIRC, 'Bran flakes' is on 'Flibbydibbydibbydob' what I already have on vinyl. Along with Shake & Vac, Do it all, Kwik-fit, Do Nothing, City baby attacked by rats and a couple of others I forget. All fine stuff.

You're right. For some reason I'd got the two confused, I thought the full title was "Snuff Said Flibbydibbydibbydob". If that's not the case then I guess I don't have "Snuff Said".

But the fact you're selling it as "rubbish" is a top tip that I shouldn't buy it... ;)

Hm. Perhaps I'm not cut out for this 'commerce' malarkey after all.

Duh... That 'MSG' really threw me off. I was so caught up with thinking 'Bloody hell, I had absolutely no idea that John could be found listening to the Michael Schenker Group' that it didn't occur to me that you might still be talking about Miranda Sex Garden. Sad. I'd like to think of you really enjoying widdly widdly teutonic widdly guitar. Widdly-widdly, Mrs Tittlemaus.

So have you, though.

Um. I'll admit to watching 1-of-Kraftwerk (Ralf-o-tron to his mates) play an ironic calculator solo behind his head with an amount of glee. Then there was 'The Ancient Gallery' who're a German art-rock collective and play the sort of solos you'd expect to be designed by a fellow who holidays in Dessau.

However, I would like 'Whole lotta Rosie' to be taken into consideration.

I've got less money than you have! Wouldn't mind the MSG either.

For more singing Mirandas though, read my journal.

Yes and no. On one hand, I invoke the humpty-dumpty defence, which is nearly see-through given the regularity of its use by those who can't order their words correctly.

On the other, one had to develop a certain detachment, lest one finally snap after listening to one too many 'nearly good enough' CDs and go round the perpetrator's house to berate them in person.

The sense of being let down by a CD that's got a fine second half or a good couple of tracks is a terrible thing. I suspect it's hard work to measure up to something like 'Come visit the big bigot', 'Feed me wierd things' or 'Computerworld'. Must be awful in my record collection. Cheek by jowl with SPK white labels, Tackhead 12s and the surly mob of Big Black records.

If I were a zeitgeist-wielding hipster, I'd find a way to reconnect this with the long Long Tail tale.

I mean, it must be hard to compete with All The Other Bands In The World, especially if you only have a few songs of greatness in you.

But on the third hand, that greatness oughtn't be thrown in the bin just because you can't don't have a standard dozen songs to make a standard industrial package. That's just too Taylorish for comfort.

Sell something I haven't already got (aside from the MSG which I don't want) and I might consider it!

[FX: Scribbling]

So, this 'Trade' business. Let's see if I've got it:

o Ensure you have things that no-one else has got.
o Tell moderate untruths about them.

It really is all terribly confusing.

Think of it this way, "If I buy this, I can appreciate music so esoterically worthy that not even the lustrous HiRez likes it"

Have you heard the Balanescu plays Kraftwerk album? \m/

Black Lung (what he did next) is much better than Snog. Paranoid dada-dustrial beat-mashing. Lovely.

The guy from MSG works in my local video shop...

Andrew.
