It feels like forever, but I guess only since October.

Faugh. Didn't last. Not like the daylight we used to get.

Maybe we all need to move to Iceland.

New Mexico or Nevada.

I could certainly use some New Mexico right now. Somewhere with empty space and endless sunshine and mountains in the distance to stop a chap falling off the world.

I can almost taste the huevos rancheros I breakfasted on in Las Cruces.

Yes, yes, absolutely with a side-order of should be driving something late sixties fuel-inefficient.

I think I want to go and live in 'It came from outer space'.

They still drive big old trucks there.

A man's not a man without a pickup truck that can carry a Volvo, and a pocketknife the size of a sword, and a rack full of shotguns and heat-dazed dogs and dried meat products.

I think I should drive to California next time, instead of flying.

My Volvo can carry your Volvo.

Now about this sword/pocketknife thing....

That's in New Mexico, not Fishponds. There, a pocket knife must be no bigger than your nose, else the Blunkett will catch you and thrash you with his many databases.

I see Spyderco are making a non-locking Dragonfly-alike specially for the UK market, which must be some kind of Home Secretary tribute knife. What do you know of CPM S30V ?

Yes. Can I come too?

Road Trip Fever is certainly in the air. We should watch Vanishing Point a couple of extra times, and then maybe Bullitt.

Yes, of course. It's far too much driving to undertake alone. And who would navigate me back to White Sands and the missile garden with such certainty ?

Not so much 'A savage journey to the heart of the American dream', more 'A rather pleasant and Ballardian random potter across test sites, rocket ranges and aircraft graveyards'

"We were just outside Almogordo when the coffee began to take hold..."

You express my inclinations more perfectly than I can myself.

Deserts and old aerospace and collapsing motel neon and dehydration and wide-angle lenses.

It is such a turning point for me, to be able to leave work in daylight. Lifts the spirits significantly.

Quite. One can finally see the rest of the year. As it were.
