The Nouvelle Vague CD arrived today.

It really is quite splendid and I commend you all to beetle off to the previously mentioned webshite and have a quick listen. I fear I'd best write something about it for Uncle Marcus.

Who's DJing Whitby? What coin am I going to have to pay to get the version of 'Marianne' played?

Was it Faith No More who provided the zydeco version of 'Let's lynch the landlord' on Virus 100? It's like that (y'all).

...

'Too drunk to fuck' as sung by giggling French totty is possibly the best thing in the entire world. Yes.

Whichever. :p

I've gone off on one before about JD covers being shite (Well, Paul Young's version is terrible. As Milligan said about someone else 'It sounds like he's crapped himself and it's sliding down one leg.'), but I likes a bit of a bossa nova, like, and a smoky French chantoozy.

I'm probably getting less Stalinist about me post-poonk as I gets older. They'll throw me out of the Andy Gill Memorial Anti-Thatcher League, no doubt.

grace jones' cover (as you probably know) is as bad. The most interesting joy division covers album, is a kinda album lenght classical tribute, which quite possibly is the oddest thing i own, very dirgy though, nothing like the fabyness of the string quartet version of kraftwerk...

um rambling, going to sleep now...

Do ya mean the joy divison one? If so its titled 'the eternal - variations on joy division' by the Nau ensemble (with a little \ on top of the a). Don't see it around much, i ddi see it in sister ray, but they claimed no knowledge of it whe i later asked them about it.

I'vre tried to put a quick extract here (http://www.atdot.demon.co.uk/Extract.mp3)

Looks to be available on Amazon (US). I'll have a listen, I think.

The Balanescu CD is dead good, mind.

i read that Siobhan Fahay (ex shakesspears sister??) has a new cover of She's lost control out, but only on 12" single... not a format for the future... if it were good i'd probs pick it up though...

Hey, I liked the PY one! Probably the 1st pop music act I ever got into, PY...The 1st haircut I ever had that my mum didn't choose was when I walked into a barber and said "make me look like PY". I was /very/ small.

You young people, I dunno.

I fear I went into the shop of haircuts and went 'I want to look like Ian Curtis'

"Here, stand on this chair then." went the woman. My, how we laughed.

That is Not Funny. [Laughs immoderately]

Hey, I was about 14. It was the start of my retreat from full-on nerdhood. Je ne regrette rien.

Confluence! A friend of mine pointed me at them the other week, and indeed my CD arrived the other day as well - I particularly like the marvellously sleazy "Guns of Brixton". Between them and Hayseed Dixie ( http://www.hayseed-dixie.com/ ) my quota of Interestingly Wrong covers is happily filled for the month.

Erm, yes I think it was fnm...top album that, never been another compilation quite like it, particularly like the accapella 'foward to death' by Nomeansno.

ooo, hello!

er, yeah, I have that trouble with trying to file compilation CDs, indeed I think its gonna be worse now since I've now got a bunch with names in kanji too...

virus100 is on vinyl, though, and its not so much of a problem there since I've only got a few compilation LPs.
