Urg. Woken at zero-dark due to it being my turn to care about Pagerduty.com (actually a mostly-well-thought-out thing). Failed to get back to sleep. Necked a melatonin. Am now zombified and bumping into solid objects.

I think ifttt is broken for me. (posting public LJ things to FB because FB + black dog == not a cheery time, frankly.)

Is it possible to bump into non-solid objects?

In my current state, I'm sure I can manage it. Anyway, it flows better as a phrase. I'm sure I have my artistic licence here somewhere.

Now entertaining myself with the mental image of you bumping into foam.

When severely over-tired I've stopped moving with a jolt because I thought I was about to bump into something caught in my (faulty) peripheral vision.

Yes, I get weird peripheral vision disturbances when very overtired and stressed too, particularly if I've been working at a computer all day.

Bright light is the best cure for melatonin.

Well, probably arc welding is the best of all.

"She might be a good dancer but she knows fook-all about welding. Her oxyacetylene mix is right off!"

I tried the melatonin, but I kept ending up with the 'clumsies' too often, and never ended up feeling rested.

I hear you on the FB thing. Stopped bothering once the social chirpiness gremlins started pulling me into self-doubt/self-accomplishment spirals.

Hope rest and some light get you back on track soon. Can the new whatzit help with any guided calming/meditation or would that be too involved?

Yes to the first three things and a definite maybe to the last.

Clearly you have the wrong FB friends.

I believe that statement might benefit from minor clarification.

Hope you're feeling better today. Sleep deprivation is awful.

I second the 'No arc welding' suggestion :D

I think there's a more involved answer about an age-related upper limit to doing on-call lurking in my head. I am more awake today, though. And since it is a Friday, it would be unwise to change anything complex.

I just remember the time Jason got called out in the middle of the night, twice in one week. After the second night, I said "if you're going to carry on doing this, you need to make A LOT more money, because when the pager goes off in the middle of the night, I fall asleep at my desk the next day".
