I'm reminded of the stuff in Oliver Postgate's autobiography, Seeing Things (which you should absolutely read if you haven't) about his early days as an actor, being in a pantomime with a pair of Apache Dancers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_%28dance%29
I am daily reminded of how old I am getting by making references to these things and being met with total incomprehension by the youngsters I'm with. Yesterday's reminder was saying to my hairdresser I want something a bit Servalan haircutwise. He had to look her up on his phone to find out who she was.
Reminds me of the fakey Blues Brothers act at Biddy Towers and my sadness when I realised Rawhide wasn't the one with the tin tray. Mind you, the inflatable donkey almost made up for it didn't it?
