hirez: More graf. Same place as the other one. (pillock)

Not long after I worked out that my life displays the sort of timing usually reserved for BBC sitcoms set in suburbia - not so much 'bad timing' as 'bloody hell the timing on that's so knackered I'm surprised it runs at all' - I, er, actually no I didn't.

I think what really happened is that I started treating this LJ business like stand-up comedy. The sort of stand-up that is as anti-matter to that Macintyre chap.

Anyway. This fine item reminded me of this other thing:

The splendid [livejournal.com profile] prusik of this very parish wrote of his experiences doing improv, and there was a thing in there that resonated, which is that you should always take what your scene-partner offers and run with it.

"Ha! Look! We're in a space-ship!"
"Crikey captain! Do you know where we are, or should we stop at the next interplanetary newsagent and ask?"
"Etc!"

vs.

"Ha! Look! We're in a space-ship!"
"No we're not. You're being silly."
" ... "

People who opt for the second version of events round me can piss off, frankly. It's rude and sucks all the fun from the moment.

(I had a point to this, but I think I've forgotten it. Likely something about looking out for milkfloats and never listening to a word I write ever.)

It is so easy to be afraid of what other people might think and so interesting when one stops.

I think your point must have been that prusik is pretty dang fabulous. :)

I've been going for "standup notes to self". My journal bores even me.

Nobody would opt for version 2! Would they? Nah, they wouldn't.

I fear you would be disappointed and yet somewhat unsurprised. It generally seems to be the sort of person who dislikes a conversation lurching out of their control.

Perhaps they're grumpy about discovering that the windows of their universe have already been painted shut?

That would require more self-awareness and less self-obsession, I think.

I really don't know. There's just a horrible sinking feeling when the words go off in the wrong direction.

My goodness what a writer you are! I think you should join this year's LJ Idol.

I have to admit that I'm half tempted.
