There's something in the back of my head and I don't know what it is, so I'll jabber randomly about Wells and perhaps it will stick its nose out of its burrow like a curious badger taunted with a box of Jaffa Cakes.

Wells, right? I'm sure the types who live closer to the place will cheerfully fill me in on what a terrible pit it is, as they have with Bath, Radstock, Trowbridge, Westbury, Chippenham and Weston, but I must admit that I was pottering around going 'Ha! Simon Pegg!'. It was a lot like Whitby, but with more cathedrals and less seaside. I think one could usefully put up at one of the inns and attempt some complicated pub-crawl.

Apparently there was a bike race, too. A robot bank won and some NetApps came second. Hurrah for Filers!

Did you
a) Pay the money to go into the Bishop's Palace & gardens? (Best bargain in Wells)
b) Have a jam, scones & cream tea in the Bishop's Palace (An even better bargain)

No - I want to go back specifically for Wells-based pottering, rather than because it was at the end of a ToB stage.

I did buy some illegal lightbulbs though. God I'm so rock&roll.

Would that be the Baby-Eating Bishop of Bath & Wells?

That would be an ecumenical matter.

I was in Holland, nearly twenty years ago (The relevant picture's on the FaceAche) and we ran out of money to buy beer and dope (probably) so one of the chaps went along to the bank in Lelystadt, which we'd been told was the only one that would understand English Plastic. (It was a long time ago and the financial workings of Yurp were string, pipe and RFC1149. Much like the way the US works now.)

It was a Rabobank.

The nice young women sat at immense consoles behind a counter-thing that looked a lot like WOPR. The counter-thing considered the idea of a foreign cash withdrawal for quite some time, then a previously hidden roller trapdoor in the top of the thing slid open and a robot hand clutching a fistful of Guilders rose from the works within.

Since then I've taken it that 'Rabobank' translates to 'Mildly scary robot bank'.
