A thing that's been wandering through my head for a few months was brought into focus by this gallery and this piece in the Manchester Guardian.

It seems that the greater part of the 'rebel alliance' (ho ho bleeding ho) are types not a million miles away from thee and I, which is really rather scary when you think about it. Not in the 'hahaha don't let those daft buggers play with a rocket launcher', which seems to be the level of FB banter. But 'Fuck me, middle-class spods of no particular political inclination have gone off to point AKs at the regular army and win. At the cost of watching their friends get killed.' And when it's finished, they're going to have to put the AK in the cupboard under the stairs and go back to developing PHP or driving a bus or being a duty solicitor.

Which, fuuu...

I expect that you and a large proportion of your readers would be more than happy ripping missile launchers of old Migs and then welding them onto the back of an old Toyota pickup, but would you pick up an AK47 and use it? Would I? I don't know if I would. I'd like to think so, in such circumstances, but would I really?

It would seem that the circumstances are 'Regular army shooting people on the streets'.

Now, given that half of FB wanted to send in the army and/or use baton rounds on The Rioting Scum, one might think that we all dodged a not-very-metaphorical bullet there.

Interesting selection of stuff there. Was a bit surprised to see an FN2000 amoungst the usual Freedom fighter cocktail of FN-FAL/SLR/G3/AK47s. Some PMC dude probably paid a small fortune for that gucci piece of kit.

In fact I don't think I've seen a '2000 outside of video games before.

According to Thee Ackurssed Witchipedia, "Libya: Purchased 367 F2000 rifles along with other assorted lethal and non-lethal weapon systems from FN Herstal in 2008, and deliveries commenced in 2009. In the 2011 Libyan Civil War, Libyan rebel forces captured a number of these weapons from forces loyal to the Gaddafi regime."
