hirez: More graf. Same place as the other one. (muddy)

On one hand, this end of Bath has been home to the scent of a robust sort of clover field, which has been reminding me of grandfather's farm.

On the other, I've not seen a butterfly this year.

That'll make the counting for this easy then ;-)

Even though I have always lived in urban areas I used to see lots of butterflies, have hardly seen any recently, not even the usually ubiquitous cabbage whites.

just wait. that budlea will kick in soon enough. it typically takes a year or so, and then the hive mind notices and starts visiting.

It was a well-established bush when we moved in a decade ago. Butterfly numbers were, well, there were some last year and none now. The river path in Bath is lined with the things - still no butterflies.

Nary a bee, either. Though I'll wait for the Mallow to get going before I worry unduly.

Hrm... maybe wonky weather has torqued the normal migration and maturation of the pollinators? I've only a few hummingbirds hitting mine, when usually the lavender and it are humming with them. We've been hot cold wet hot cold wet hot hot cold. Annnnd I just spent far too much time on the wiki entry. Fun facts!

I suspect so. No doubt we'll be plagued by them in a month.

Nashville is hosting some kind of global butterfly jubilee this summer. I keep seeing monarch butterflies the size of paper plates drifting outside my office window. I wonder if there's a correlation with the earlier cicada plague? I bet they're all in town for the temporary Hank Williams family exhibit.

Only three in the park this evening, on the long slope up to the grotto. All the same sort, though, so at least they'll have a social scene.

Two will be bitching about the other one, then.

I've got butterflies galore! But I'm a bit concerned about the surprising lack of fireflies. Scant few, when the night sky hereabouts usually teems with them.

Couple of cabbage whites in the garden this year, but nothing like the plague we had last year. Don't think that I've seen any apart from that.

Hmm, I think I've seen a few but then I've not been out in the countryside all that much and we don't expect to see loads in town. Maybe the hot Spring affected their breeding?

Haven't seen any dragonflies or damselflies at all this year yet.
