A throwaway comment (and on FB they're all a bit throwaway. Apart from the ones that aren't) on that there FriendFace led to the concept of 'Urban hymns to (or for) the mundane'. The snatches of post-punk (for me, anyway) gems that accompany the practicalities and in some cases are almost offerings to the spirits of technology in order to ensure a favourable outcome.

Such as the urge to bellow 'PARKLIFE!' out of the bedroom window at the dustmen & recyclers of a Monday morning.

Or (in my case) humming 'Public Image' so as to ensure a productive and mutually satisfactory conference-call or 'webex'.

'Kerosene' is the song of fire lighting.

'Parklife' (again) when feeding pigeons.

I've been mulling over posting on such a topic for years. The main thing that's been stopping me is that, apparently, I can't deliberately call any of my examples to mind. Bloody hundreds of snatches of songs tangentially realted to the current activity/location permeate my waking life... can I think of any of them? No.

Oh, except for the decidedly pre-punk "No Milk Today", which I am mercifully free from since I moved to an area that doesn't have doorstep milk.

Feeding pigeons is Tom Lehrer for me!

I can't go through Waterloo station without either getting Waterloo (Abba) or Waterloo Sunset (Kinks) in my head. Likewise Clapham Junction without Up the Junction.
