Surface Detail. really jolly good. It's been a while since I read [spoilers], so I didn't spot that [spoilers] was [spoilers]. Had to have a sit-down and think about that one.

Farting Skies. Oh, just piss off will you.

I first read The list of seven in the early 90s and adored it because, well, who wouldn't - Conan Doyle, proto-steampunk, zombies and fine conspiracy theories. I didn't know there'd been a sequel until recently - I don't think it was published over here. It shows. A late-Victorian hooray would not refer to London in terms of blocks. I shall continue reading in the hope that it bucks its ideas up.

I wasn't sure that it was at all obvious or relevant that [spoilers] was [spoilers], to be honest. I mean, yes, I got that "omg" thing, but on reflection felt it wasn't really important to the story. Am not saying I didn't like it, though.

BTW, after nine months of having it on my "To Read" pile The Raw Shark Texts finally bubbled to the top. Thank you for the recommendation; it's bloody brilliant, although the ending felt a little unsatisfactory.

I'd say it changes what's been going on completely. Without that information, the scheme looks largely like what it was publicly proclaimed to be. With it, it was obviously set up by [spoilers] as a way of getting [spoilers] to throw the game in such a manner as to allow them to [spoilers] and look justified.

The 6 Messiahs (the sequel to The List Of 7) was definitely published over here 'cos we've had a copy for years :)

I haven't read them in so long that I can barely remember what heppens in either book, but I do remember enjoying them rather a lot.
