This one (http://www.mk3cortina.com/cgi-bin/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Modified_Cortinas&image=terra1.jpg&img=8&tt=) seems perfectly fine to me. Isn't this the way all cortinas should be?
I think it was the escort that was the dustbin, though it seemed to be a term used for anything with the badge by the time its time was up - my Sierra was made in Belgium, of all places.
A 3L granny coupe would have been a helluva car - there was a guy at my school had an estate from that era which was all very well until someone drove into the back of it, the car lurched several feet down the road and left a really scary pile of rust on the ground where it had been standing.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that vehicle. Is this some euro-only hoo-hah? Looks kind of like a neutered Chevelle or maybe a cockeyed Impala. The Plymouth Duster's really uncool cousin. . .
You're lucky not to know anything about them. Ugly, slow, vomit-inducing sheds. A dying Ford engine of that era has a most peculiar smell, not unlike the dreadful pong that emanates from a similarly expiring Leyland plant, but more redolent of festering rodent rather than a coking factory.
I think that the European car makers that didn't borrow US styling cues fared much better.
Mine's beautiful! Me! Me! Me! But, yeah, most modern cars are ugly. I like it when the manufacturers try though, even if they get it wrong it's better than the usual amorphous blob.
Well... Both. Since the design of consumer durables (or 'not durables' in the case of BLMC vehicles) is clearly the ramblings of the collective unconscious made metal and plastic. A lot like the way that most modern cars have become the sort of mercury teardrops we first saw in Metropolis or Flash Gordon. The Gernsback Continuum has come back to taunt/haunt us because were supposed to be living in the future now, rather than the past. (Cue Jethro Tull)
On the other hand, the entire output of FoMoCo(UK) has had very few redeeming features. Slapping orange paint on a rusty Cortina does not make it the General Lee. A matt-black Cortina lowrider is still a Cortina, albeit one that can't go over speedbumps and causes mirth in small children.
this probably sounds blasphemous to anyone who knows about cars, but the only car i can think of that i've seen and thought, 'wow, that's beautiful' is a purple and black ford puma.
then again, i don't really pay much attention to anything, let alone cars, so there are probably much prettier ones!
Lots of people like the Puma, and so do I until I go round the back and see that rounded arse. And it's a Ford. And I do like purple - a colour I'm considering for the interior of mine, as it's currently that hideous beige colour.

Mind you, I did nearly buy a 3L Granada mkii Coupe once. It was a long time ago, though.
