We have a 'hello world' on the phone.

Good. That means the toolchain works, even with my hamfisted interference. A pity NetBeans can't be configured to play, but there we are.

And I think I begin to understand what's going on. All that Intuition and Win3.0 event-model experience might prove useful. Might.

A celebratory beer now, I think.

Urgh Netbeans free but sucky.

Favourite IDE here is Codeguide ( www.omnicore.com ) but thats payware (tho the 21 day trial is goodly and functional)....

The other option, Eclipse, is free, and here's a pointer http://www.javalobby.com/thread.jsp?forum=61&thread=8344 to getting it going with J2ME emulators.

Me, I use Codeguide. :)

May the bladders of a thousand bedouin...

Eclipse. Yes. Nice. Leads to Ant. Oh look - it's built in. Good. Leads to Antenna, what are j2me build directives (as far as I can tell) for Ant and therefore Eclipse.

I would imagine that the end result would be 'press f9 to build with j2me libraries (or whatever I should call them) and squirt the result to the Nokia emulator' If I could make head or tail of the IDE.

It looks very nice indeed, though.

But then one always goes through a three week fight with an IDE to get it and one's brain singing in harmony, so I guess I should go read some docs.

(I'd also better write down how it can be made to work together. If I get it right. There seems to be little in the way of handholding for the drooling simpleton or Unix Admin...)

I guess thats why I like Codeguide; very low learning curve and huge payoff as it does on the fly project wide semantic and syntax checking and helps you all the way. Must see how Eclipse's version of that is developing.

Long shot

Sorry for hijacking LJ and all that but I'm too much of a lazy moose to fire up an email program. I don't suppose, against all laws of how often people delete their email, you still have the email I sent you with my semi-finished novel in it, do you? The disk that held is Is No More and if I've lost it all I shall be Not Happy.
