Drink a few tinnies of Double Diamond (or Brew XI, Whitbread Trophy, or indeed something from the Davenports delivery[1]), and bung this on full-screen.

(I have to admit that discovering Davenports still exist has made my week. I'm not the sort to go 'squee!', but if I was, I would be.)

Okay, I had been wondering what that giant can of beer was and now I know. I hadn't heard of those (having been, you know, under 10 years old and living in the US during the 70's) and now that I have, well. That's an incredible way to deliver an incredible amount of beer. The article I found on them says they were "alarmingly metallic-tasting," too. I bet they were.

From what I recall,the stuff tasted fairly bad. Not as horrible as McEwan's Export, mind. Which in turn wasn't as bad as anything Mitchells & Butlers used to brew.

The George Tavern (http://www.myspace.com/thegeorgetavern) in Stepney has a genuine vintage Double Diamond sign (http://www.deadpubs.co.uk/LondonPubs/StGeorgeEast/GeorgeTavern.shtml) on the outside.

Doesn't light up these days, alas. But I think it should be restored, like the Lucozade sign (http://brentford.hounslowchronicle.co.uk/2010/02/retro-lucozade-sign-back-in-br.html) (although I notice they did not replace the original tag line, which said 'Aids Recovery').

I was trying to remember when I last saw one of those light-up Watney Red Barrel red barrels. Did they have one in the Elsinore in Whitby, or did I dream that?

There's a bar in Dublin, somewhere round St Steven's green that has the light-up barrel.

In the town where I went to university (the first time round) several taxi companies had a service where you could order beer through them and they'd deliver it to you for the princely sum of $5.00 + price of the beer (I may be wrong about the price).

In a burg where the beer store was nowhere near the bus stop and few students had cars, this was a splendid idea.
