Looking at that with 21st century eyes, I can spot about a dozen bands I'd want to go and see. (Arcwelder, Man or Astro-Man? Sleater-Kinney, Supersuckers, Thinking Feller's Union, Gas Huffer, Apocalypse Hoboken...)

... Oh, ok. In the future when time-travel is perfected, there's going to be a pale and wild-eyed tribe of hardcore Peelists who'll take following bands to the appropriate conclusion.

Someone should write a story about that.

What makes you think this hasn't already happened eh? You never heard it said that the audience at the first sex pistols gig was only a few dozen but thousands of people claim to have been there?

Sleater-Kinney and Supersuckers -- I thought you meant on the same bill -- that would be a strange night. Both bands I love but not really the same night.

It was going on all the time till Jean-Claude Van Damme got wind of it.

Now the back rows of all the historic gigs are packed out with Time Cops in nominally authentic costumes. You can always spot them by the whiff of solvent that comes off clothes which haven't been aired properly since they came out of the replicator.

As you know, I never actually leave my house, which saves me from this kind of puzzlement.

But yes, perhaps the whole fashion thing is driven by what Jean-Claude can glean by feeding a historical archive of crumbling colour-supplement fashion articles into the input slot on his replicator. That would make perfect sense.
