On a slight tangent to the avoidance of critical changes on a Friday afternoon, I still don't understand why I cannot get through to other business types that demanding any kind of technological update / installation / change must occur before the end of the week is short-sighted.
Many seem unable to grasp the concept that what they'll get will be rushed and will then fail over the weekend when the engineers responsible will not be available to fix it and, because it's new, any support people on duty won't be able to fix it.
I don't understand why I cannot get this through to them, why they continue to do it and then whine when things go wrong.

Until I arrived, the kids in my department would merrily execute infrastructure changes on a Friday. Usually just before the Toronto guys came online.

Alarmingly, I was halfway through reading that when I was rung up by a recording of a cheerful lady telling me I'd won a Carribean cruise.
