While I generally agree with the aims and aspirations of the Cats Protection Mob...

... Cos accidents do 'appen, don't they, mush? I mean, looka dat vase. Musta cost a few bob, right? Be a terrible shame if anyfink 'appened to it, etc...

Anyway. Where was I? Oh, right.

So there are posters throughout all[1] the railway stations I've visited with An Cat staring out at you...

As any fule no, this is entirely incorrect and the massed ranks of cat protection agents would be well served in bucking their ideas up quick-smart in order to avoid being laughed at by tiresome people in ironic trilby hats.

To save them all sorts of trouble, I've fixed their poster for them:

[1] A small sample admittedly.

But that cat is terrifying! A more likely slogan would be "Im in ur house, eatin ur children!"

I can't believe I just typed that.

It's a very pale cat with eyeliner.

(Hey, I'm the one who spent several minutes sodding around with the image, after disturbing other commuters by taking the picture in the first place then jogging away while cackling gleefully. The world's filled with odd things that should be looked at wrong and/or repurposed for the sake of it.)

The mood in the lunchtime pub was that I should contact the catpeople and fill them in on recent (FAVO) developments on the internets.

That's great! lolcats protection.

Nice cat, by the way. You should adopt it! Let the ferrets beat it into shape!

But I would be sneezing and have itchy eyes and throat (obvious reason why we don't have cats as pets), even if the ferrets did win the battle!

it's blue-eyed white cats that tend to be deaf...

Agreed. White cats with two blue eyes are the highest statistically to be deaf. However, white cats with odd-eyes (two colors) and those with two yellow eyes also share a 39-16% chance of being deaf.* In my experience, about 30% of _all-white_ cats that I have encountered with two same-color eyes are usually deaf. Depending upon where you live, your mileage may very.

*Per the studies of Bosher & Hallpike (1965), Mari (1973), and Bergsma & Brown (1971).

Ooh, I didnt know about the yellow eye deafness link. Just that white cats with blue eyes are often deaf.

I also read that, in the case of white cats with odd-coloured eyes where one eye is blue, the cat is likely to be deaf in the ear on the same side as the blue eye but have ok hearing on the other side.

Genetics is weird.

Genetics are weird! I recall reading about the white cat/deafness issue and it explained something about the lack of pigment-producing cells causing the eardrum skins to not form properly (i.e., they stem and develop from the pigment-producing cells which, if they're absent, means the eardrum doesn't form correctly).

For that poor kitty in the picture, if he is 100% white then he is definitely a g*th cat. Pure white kitties cannot endure long stints in the sun, as their skin, especially their ears, can get so sunburned that they develop skin cancer and/or irreparable skin damage. By design, white kitties must roam and remain in the darkness ... well, at least some of the time. :)

This happened to one of mine - cats in Perth often get skin cancer past age 10.

This is the first item at which I have heartily laughed today that did not involve the Weather Channel's extension of "lake-effect snow" into "bay-effect wind" and, my personal favourite, "ocean-effect rain".
