Hmm, interesting. Somehow I completely missed this band in the 80s but then I was more into things like JD, Bauhaus and lots of punk.

After watching the "Love and Pride" video (thank you, YouTube, for helping learn what I missed) I have to say that had I seen them in the 80s I would have likely had a crush on Paul King. (I love men with long, thin noses, even if they have a "girl hair".)

Well, yes. But such was the wonder of daytime radio-1, a chap was more or less unable to avoid popular chart malarkey.

Two hours of Peel per night was decontamination.

Decontamination ... I like that term.

Up to this point, I've been using the term "recalibration" in its place. However, decontamination seems to suit things more appropriately. This is a key discovery for me, as it will fit nicely into a short story that I am writing.

Very fine.

The thing is that King were all over both Smash Hits and International Musician, since they were a proper band that played their own instruments. The NME wouldn't touch them because they were musos rather than a radical anarcho-veggie commune.

FFS John, that was too obscure for me and I saw the buggers live once. (Great gig - you can't really appreciate Leningrad Cowboys unless you'd seen King's hair)
