I imagine that there's already been a SF-thingy called 'Somewhat above average stories', filled with tales of robots that work properly, computers that crash instead of taking over the world and uninteresting trips to nondescript towns on planets far enough away to require a night in the mid-galactic travelodge.

It's just a touch of fandom. Honest. I could give it up anytime. If I wanted.

So not doing a zine. Again. If I can find the pile of Instant Success issues, I shall scan one and then you will see that my decision is correct.

(I-S was mostly the work of [livejournal.com profile] uk_jon, but the JHR bits are tolerably obvious)

Nah. Meta-SF is perfectly reasonable material for an author.

I do frequently wonder what writeups of current real-life events would look like in an SF context thirty to fifty years ago.

Oh, and no doubt they got to the mid-galactic Travelodge by space-Skoda.

Yeah, it's "mundane SF" - working hard to abolish the sense of wonder ;P

I don't think I've ever read any. Which means that you should, obviously.

actually a story I remember very fondly, of aliens arriving and wanting to trade ideas. Eventually the idea the humans sell is.. paint.

Either that, or The Great Cowpat Boom, which may be mythological as I can't remember who wrote it to search the myriad short story collections on my shelves, and Google claims no knowledge.
