I thought he was with you
Jul. 9th, 2008 12:27 amIt's going to be interesting to watch the reactions to this Mosley malarkey.
On one hand, it would be somewhat cheering to have the NoTW shut down because that entire edifice contributes root(fuck-all) to the sum totals of human knowlege or happiness. On the other, case law proscribing press freedom would be a bad thing. On the other other, way to shoot yourselves and the rest of your trade in the foot you useless tabloid lackwits.
See, to anyone sensible, it just sounds like a B&D scene. The participants sounded like they were having fun. Safe, Sane and Consensual. Your Kink is not My Kink but, etc...
The problem I have is that the hysterical and disapproving tone of the NoTW has become a commonplace. It's a bit bloody disturbing to take a mental step back and examine one's own reactions to other people's sex lives. To be honest, I've held some less-than-splendid attitudes over time. Which given the sorts of things I've gone and done is a bit bloody rich. I've also let other people bang on where I should have called them on their statements or more properly just told them to fuck off out of my general area.

Date: 2008-07-09 12:12 am (UTC)Which frankly smacks of trying to influence a jury...whether he believes them to be so is frankly irrelevant. The issue in question is whether this was legal (and the lack of police prosecution suggests it is) and whether this was in fact a Nazi scenario.
Well, my understanding is that while I have seen nothing to suggest it was a Nazi scenario, I certainly think it invoked some very close relatives.

Date: 2008-07-09 08:49 am (UTC)Well quite. Gah; the whole thing is just POINTLESS and NOT IMPORTANT in the big scheme of things. Millionaire has ill-advised sex orgy. SO WHAT?

Date: 2008-07-09 10:10 am (UTC)I mean, most of the reason that people are so fucked up about anything even vaguely non-vanilla is the gutter press banging on about sin.
In my experience, the least fucked up are the alleged perverts.

Date: 2008-07-09 01:17 pm (UTC)If one's parents were fairly well known for their right wing, fascist tendencies, dressing your Domme up in *any* uniform is ill-advised, IMO.

Date: 2008-07-09 01:57 pm (UTC)"I was participating in a German scenario involving prisoners, guards, hair shaving, being searched for ticks, abusing said prisoners in German and blonde girls shouting 'We are the ayrian race'" is about as close to a Nazi scenario as you can get without actually being one.
Though playing devils advocate, would it matter if he was? What his parents do is not his issue, and from what I gather a great many people enjoy dressing up in Nazi uniforms for fetish purposes. Personally I find them extremely distasteful BUT what people do behind closed doors is their business and what I find distasteful is neither here nor there.

Date: 2008-07-09 02:25 pm (UTC)Y'know, better to get it out of your system in private (well, theoretically) than, say, go for a walk with your mates through the east end.
(We've seen this more often in the US recently, with 'wide stance' bloke and meth-hoovering not-gay-at-all brimstone preacher fellow. If the alleged guardians of the public morals weren't so tediously hypocritical...)

Date: 2008-07-09 01:45 pm (UTC)What he does in his private life is his own business as far as I am concerned. I think he was most definitely playing with fire getting himself involved in this kind of scenario being who he was and the position he holds, and managed to get himself burned in the process. But I do admire his guts at this point in time for coming out and saying "Look, there is nothing illegal or wrong with what I do". If nothing else it seems to have pushed the issue into the media spotlight and hopefully, though I'm not holding my breath, we might have some open debate.
There seems to be a prurient campaign from certain sectors of Government against what they view as immoral sexual activity, the CJA clause about violent pornography in particular which one MP has apparently admitted was aimed directly at the BDSM community.

Date: 2008-07-09 01:06 am (UTC)(1) I think Max is a lousy president of the racing side of the FIA and would love to see him ousted. He used to be a Proper Racer back in his days at March (ok, he was dodgier than Bernie back then, but on a smaller budget) but things were fun then.
(2) I don't particularly have an opinion on his conduct on the road-car side of the organisation but he does appear to have done a lot of good on eco and safety issues.
(3) The NoTW is a grotty little rag, Murdoch is a swine, and both deserve to be kicked like ginger-haired stepchildren.
(4) What consenting adults do in private is their own business, even if money's changing hands.
On balance I would have preferred Mosley to have lost the vote of confidence last month for two reasons - (a) he's stuck around much longer than he said he would and (b) single-seater racing under the auspices of the FIA has reached new levels of crapness.
His sexual proclivities are (or at least should be) irrelevant.

Date: 2008-07-09 01:49 pm (UTC)Life and relationships are rarely as black and white as they appear. I'd argue a degree of 'lying' is more common than not. Be that white van man hiding a porn mag in his van to something like this.
