I blame [livejournal.com profile] godgirl.

She mentioned flyering for upcoming 25men and Lorries gigs, so I had a bit of a poke on the internet and...

If Windy Miller was going to make atmospheric pysch-trance and wanted a headstart, he'd sample his windmill. Which is where we find 'Marrakech Mother'. Only better. 'Layered' would be a good word for it, as would 'hallucinogenic'. However, 'micturation' wouldn't.

I'm only slightly ashamed to admit that recorded James Ray has rarely compared to the utter brainfuck of the full-on live experience.
The tracks streamable from www.myspace.com/25men are quite startlingly good and lead me to stand by a statement I made a couple of years ago to the effect that his was the last 'industrial' (a meaningless label to anyone of my age) band that I could or had any interest in writing about.

Thus: fucking a-1 genius stuff. Go listen.

James Ray can be a bit of a handful - I can remember when a friend got them to play for my mate's stag night, the brainfuck of the live experience has little to compare with Eric bacstage.

He has some very f*cked up stories to tell..

...but at all costs try to avoid being in the same room when he decides to give an impromptu reading from his novel (as my mate told him, "I think that officially constitutes 'banging on'" - Eric was rather nonplussed. Mind you, he _was_ banging on a bit.

Well that's a handy new thing to have discovered. Tah for the heads up on that, enjoying it greatly.
