I am grovelling through Python web-framework documentation in order to discover which might be the least objectionable.

Send people to point and laugh.

Django's pretty neat.

I'm leaning toward it, largely due to the lack of XML.

(I'm not a coder anymore, sadly.)

I liked it because the object mapper is nice, the automatic database syncing is cool, and the built in admin system is lovely.

I also hate XML. Hrm do we want a human readable or computer readable format? Let's compromise and have neither!

XML: EDIFACT re-invented by Nathans.

Or rather: A not-bad idea that's become a bolt-on buzzword and seems to enable some startling ugliness. XML-and-SQL-for-everything-and-it-must-go-up-port-80.

1999 called, it wants its rant back.

If you don't like XML, then FRO and talk to the SGML wonks. Now _there's_ brown-suited BCS-grade socks-and-sandals boredom for you.

We had one of those at Inepte. Back in time before anyone had heard of this new-fangled HTML malarkey.

Ruby is what happens when you put a normal programming language back and forward through babelfish.

Heh.

I love ruby, but I still agree with you ;)

MFTL vs. YFTL! Place bets now!

One of the chaps here is big on Ruby (As is great wodges of the FreeBSD port-manglement toolset), but I fear it makes my eyes itch.

Ruby's the best possible programming language for Rails.

Rails is pants. QED. Great for trivia, runs out of steam horribly by chapter 2.

As for Python, then Django beats CherryPy IMHO

Why not go the whole hog and whack Zope + Plone on there.

Zope: for when your Leegnux box doesn't crash often enough to adequately recreate the Windows experience.

Is there a Zope/Plone site that doesn't resemble a Cubist Slashdot?

Slashdot? I've told you once before about this 1999 retro business. Decent code underneath doesn't _have_to_ mean ugly design.

I have a portal (yes, really) to build at work, which will be Zoped. I'm interested in this crashy-crashy issue.

As I've spent much of this week writing MediaWiki extensions in PHP, it can't be any worse than that! (Anyone grok Labelled Section Transclusion, or DPL?)

Aaaand Slashdot doesn't have either!

(Second version of rocknerd.org crawls on Slash. It's not the reason it's moribund, but it doesn't help.)

Not that I can recall. I mostly remember Zope as the reason the first version of rocknerd.org would eat its own database whenever it got upset.

"the least objectionable"

You know, hubby was just lamenting about the same thing last week when he had to review someone's code which, for some bizarre reason, was done in Python. Sounds nasty.
