USB connectors have a rubbish design. Whichever way you try to jab them into the half-hidden socket, they're the wrong way up. You can't tell if you're hitting the socket square-on, but have the connector wrong, or if you've the connector the right way up but are missing the socket slightly. Hopeless.

Anyway. Went out for a run in the direction of Thornbury and back, armed with a pre-motorway OS map of the area and several supplements from the Science in Sport people. I didn't get as far as I wanted, for which I shall blame the life-force sapping precincts of Bradley Stoke.

Anyway. Once you get away from the A38, Almondsbury is quite lovely and has remarkable views of both Severn crossings. Which I did not photograph because I was still gripped with a need to escape the smell of Bradley Stoke, about which I can say nothing nice save that it's not on my OS map.

If you look carefully in that area, you can find pre-Worboys Report roadsigns.

Note the painted-out reference to Aust Ferry.

Design by committe =:-( Never mind the proliferation of miniature connectors, as no-one thought to include such a thing in the first place.

I had to read the preliminary USB spec, all 250 pages of the bloody thing, and I'm surprised it works at all.

Invest in a cheap USB hub which puts the connectors on your desktop. Really, it's a few quid and the lowered blood pressure will put years on your life!

There's a sign in Clifton (I think where Queen's Road splits off from Whiteladies Road) that still has Aust Ferry on it.
