hirez: More graf. Same place as the other one. (tank)

I/we have a slightly more than vague plan to potter round the 'History of camo' exhibit-thing at the War Museum of Mint Imperials this Saturday. And presumably stare balefully at the legions of howling Tarquins and Jocastas.

I am actually an NT member, but I'm afraid I'm busy this weekend.

Will you be practicing driving yon car with your right arm hanging out of the window?

[grin] Actually, the sills are quite high, so arm-dangling isn't too comfortable - but the arm-rests are in the right place ...

[livejournal.com profile] thunderbox used to tell of a colleague who kept some US iron with bench seats and minimal seatbelts. The only way to stay handy for the steering wheel was to hang one arm out of the window and hold on to the door.

[snork] Nice. Fortunately the Cruiser's front seats are more modern divided ones. And the arm-rests help hold you in. Although the back bench might be interesting, given the leather surface ... [grin]

Then again, the Cruiser's dynamics aren't really designed to encourage swift cornering ... [grin]

And the combination of 440 cu in and drum brakes was just icing on the cake…

I think I forgot that bit on purpose.

(What manner of car was it, anyway?)

It was always referred to as a Chrysler 440 but I have a feeling that only specifies the source of horses, not the rest of it. Not having even owned a car for a dozen years, all this is a mystery to me now.

[Propellor-headed Mopar spod]

440 would be the size of the engine in cubic inches.

Hm. Hemi-powered and bench seats? GTX? Satellite? Something like that.

Coincidentally, we're supposed to be doing the same on Saturday, as we failed to make it last weekend.

Give me a call if you guys want to meet up for lunch or something :)

That sounds like a fine plan.

Early on I developed a habit of calling them "National Front", which is rather unfortunate. Perhaps it's for that reason that I've never become a member. Anyway, the only place around here that one would get a discount at has made the mistake of putting the tea shop outside, so we never actually get past the muffins.

National Truss and English Heretics. Oh yes. Only I think they're going a bit downmarket because instead of howling Tarquins and Jocastas, their properties seem to be full of rampaging Jordans and Britneys.

Jordans

Eh? we don't rampage when we visit these places; we're far too old and decrepit. [livejournal.com profile] ramtops might brandish her Stout Stick though.

Oh.

ISWYM.

What tends to happen when we pitch up at some NT establishment is that the women in the twinsets who run the places look down their noses at us. You can hear them thinking 'Oh dear, a scruffy oik and an American...'

Of course, as soon as I open my mouth it's all smiles and would I like tea...
