In re. the Adam Curtis programme: It's nice to be right.

Or rather, I have had a suspicion for quite some time that a lot of the ways and processes of modern western society are broken and/or invented by mad people for the benefit of other mad people, and the only way to cope with this is to become as mad as them.

That game theory appears to be a crock surprises me not. And that Hayek fellow. Barking. And anyone who self-diagnoses a 'disorder'.

I need to watch it again.

I rather enjoy game theory myself though I need to gain a better understanding. I am not convinced by it as a tool for understanding human behaviour. But as a method for finding optimal solutions for some problems arising from system behaviour it has merit.

Game theory is a method for understanding human behaviour, when the humans in question are Nash, Von Neumann and Hilbert.

Quite so. The argument seemed to be that it worked well when considering a game of poker, but spectacularly failed to scale.

The other problem is that now it's been applied (in Prisoner's Dilemma form) to much human endeavor, we're applying it ourselves and thus acting like a mob of self-fulfilling shitehawks.
