In conversation recently, there was incredulity when I mentioned going to the Blackpool Experimental Whitby Weekend.
It did happen, didn't it? Rosetta/Inkubus/Oh God I've forgotten they were rather good, too.

Date: 2006-11-08 08:00 am (UTC)The B&B had an ISDN line and by the end of the weekend I *really* wanted a salad.
(The tiger print seat covers are still in full effect in the Landrover)

Date: 2006-11-08 09:10 am (UTC)That was the weekend of the Red Bull experiment. (How many do you have to slurp if you want to be veryawakeformostofthenightandenduphelpingaverydrunk St. Karl home? Ans: less than I thought.)
The pub. I recall looking at the place from across the road as someone 'tested' the smoke machine. The stuff was pouring from the aircon vents as if it were liquid oxygen boiling off from the launch of the world's first Interplanetary Suburban Boozer. A live re-enactment of a fine Goons programme, if you will.
Blackpool Whitby: DejaGoogle proof
Date: 2006-11-08 09:44 am (UTC)DejaGoogle (http://groups.google.co.uk/group/uk.people.gothic/msg/df7f222ce27551b7)
5th-6th June 1998.
And not Rosetta Stone but Children On Stun instead (who sounded a lot like Rosetta circa An Eye For The Main Chance, if one may describe a band as sounding "like" goth-era Rosetta without multiple levels of Mission/Sisters-impersonation irony, although to be fair they were produced by former Rosetta rhythm guitarist Porl Young).
I must admit, at first sight of your post I assumed, like Sarah Mum, you'd got confused with Morecombe.

Date: 2006-11-08 09:48 am (UTC)Wouldn't mind going back in time to the days of Epitaph/Dissolution. Wonder what Ian and Cath are up to these days.

Date: 2006-11-08 03:51 pm (UTC)I saw Ian and Cath at Whitby in April. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a chance for a natter or I could tell you more.

Date: 2006-11-08 12:45 pm (UTC)However, no-one else I know from Cheltenham now has any recollection of that sort of thing. It's like my version of Cheltenham (and in this case, the not-Whitby Gothic Malarkey) has been edited out of the collective memory.
It makes a chap wonder, reasonably regularly.
