All you proper DJs can point and laugh at the dimlo - The Incredible Bongo Band are rather good, aren't they?

It's vaguely like having a Stallman moment and realising that you've found the source code for a lot (an awful lot) of old-skool hiphop and electro records.

You may picture the JHR listening to that break over and over while grinning like a fool.

Edit: Of course, now I think about it great wedges are to be found on The Dirtchamber Sessions. A CD that I played to death at the time. Ho hum.

It all started with a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] hamsterhotep, which is entirely satisfactory. Oh, yes: http://krispenhartung.blogspot.com/2005/12/project-mri.html Which points to samples of a MRI scanner at work. A sack of superconducting hammers, if you will.

I'm amazed he managed to come up with something so Mellow from the racket an MRI scanner makes!

Yes. It's... Pleasant. I'm not entirely sure I'd listen to it again, but one never knows. The original noises in the 'source' folder are much more fun, though.

Hm. There's a thought. If I lent you my MD recorder..?

Ooo. I like that.

Have you ever heard any ALP btw? Similar idea. You might enjoy tracks such as Disck Drive Kettle Washing Machine and Door Fridge Microwave Water.

It is, isn't it? (On a winders box, anyway. Shonky bloody Flash malarkey. I should send in the TBL shock-troops to give their trendy Hoxton-finned-and-bearded heads a shoeing.)

Yup. :)

If there were a source code I think the Apache and Amen breaks would be essential elements. I have a few compilations of old Blue Note recordings that they put together because they were the original source of several classic hip-hop tracks. There is also a compilation series called The Breaks which does similar but with a broader selection of classic sampled tracks.

Quite a few classic breaks on here http://www.joejahnigen.com/grooves.htm and this is maybe worth a look too, more in depth but not as easy to browse. http://www.the-breaks.com/

You may imagine me, while pottering on my bike yesterday arvo, running through the old-skool section of my records in my head, going "I know I've got that bloody break. It's not in any of the Tackhead (or Fats Comet or DJ Cheese), I don't think it's Afrika... World Famous Supreme Team? Nah. High-Fidelity Three? Nah. Timezone? Newcleus? Bugger!"

In the background, I've been buying old Meters (and the like) LPs when I find them, just because.

Chugchugchug. Love it. Keep meaning to take my MDR out with me, i'd use it just as much as a snapshot camera.
