This running business comes on apace (Ahaha. Oh, I'm such a card.) which is jolly fine. Shin splints and not being able to drive home afterwards are distant memories, even though I'm covering four times the ground.

We're coming up to that Tour time of year, too. That'll be me in front of the telly for several hours a day.

Thanks. I guess I am - personal lard hatred will do that to a chap.

You might as well hate fat - it weighs you down and makes it more difficult to get motivated to move at all. I've been getting into my long-distance walking again simply because the older I get, the more I loathe the sight of my own double-chin, or fat bot or tum. I can withstand ageing as long as I'm reasonably neat and tidy!

Absolutely. I don't particularly want to look like some spheroid with a chin like Joey Ramone.

It's all about vanity.

impressed, anything of that nature I give up after a couple of days. Are you seeing benefits yet? (other than not needing splints any more!)

(technical point: 'shin splints' refers to the serious pain in the shins caused by running badly. When running, if your feet make a 'blap blap blap' noise, you're hitting the ground too flat-footed. You should aim to run nearly silently.)

Benefits? Yes. I started off being knackered and in serious pain after five minutes. Now I'm up to twenty-plus without any particular trouble and looking forward to the next run out. Starting off in a group of people helped a lot, as did/does the running-plan cooked up by the people here. It really does ease a chap in gently.
