Not a useful and productive day; I could have got more done if I'd stopped home in bed. Meanwhile, the greater mass of humanity took every possible opportunity to make me think ill of them.

On the other and much more pleasant hand, I've happened upon 'Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett' by Venetian Snares, and it's exactly the sort of random racket I need right now. An angular drum & bass merchant jamming with the Balanescus. A marvellous and unlikely noise. More like that, please.

Like Venetian Snares? Try Squarepusher too. Not as severe drill n' bass as VS, but Mr. Jenkinson can still crank out an unholy racket when he wants to.

I'll swear when I saw him live in 2001, he was just jamming screwdrivers into sockets on the back of his gear to see what noises he could make.

You missed the obvious title for that post... :)

Do I know Squarepusher? Yes. I think my favourite track is still 'Squarepusher theme'.

That album, 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'Mars Audiac Quintet' vaguely bracket a relatively pleasant time of decade.

not a slightly echoey room with two large reel to reel tape recorders by any chance? Having a Lucier moment?

Yes. DHM reminded me that it was lying around somewhere and I'd better listen to it properly. It's good to be prodded into listening to something non-obvious like that.

I should probably subscribe to The Wire, but it would end up in strokey-beard prayer hat land.

Don't forget the sandles you'd need to adopt if you start collecting/constructing modular synths...

Wire is amazing, I found copies in deepest New Zealand and not just one token "we ordered this from the distributor because we were curious" but a dozen copies in one newsagent. I presume the mistook it for Wired, although who wants to pay about 8 quid for an imported beardy synth mag I know not. (-;

Freaky, I just came across that same album linked up elsewhere. Tis good, I may have to make a trip to the local surly record store and pick up a hard copy.
