hirez: More graf. Same place as the other one. (Default)

(The alternative was a 'count of Monte Cristo' pun, so, um, thing. Yes.)

That, Sir, is a FINE pun - both contrived and knowledgable.

Kudos.

Ta. Art is where you find it.

I would also like avid reading of the NME in the 80s to be taken into consideration.

They're in the midst of redeveloping the end of the M32 (the tower) and Broadmeads (grim seventies shopping area that's lost out badly since the terrible out-of-town 'mall' opened in the wasteland between the far end of Filton Aerodrome (A place called Catbrain, as it happens) and the M5), and what will happen is that the old versions of the place will become airbrushed out. A lot like what happened with the meccano flyover.

I think cities are in constant motion. Consuming themselves and reproducing like those time-lapse films of fungus edging along a wall.

I'll look out for them next time I'm in Bristle...

All they need are giant ribbons and bows :D

Perhaps a Hello Kitty logo in one corner?

Now thats not a bad idea... I'm sure 'Hello Kitty' has a much darker purpose than the manufacturers are letting on ;)

And in many cities, the fungus isn't just metaphorical.

Reminds me of 'Meadowh(a/e)ll' in Sheffield .. which is in Tinsley ... old steeltown and sewage processing plant ...

Hmm.. wonder what they'll look like when they're unwrapped. Havent been past that part of Bristol for a while.

Flatter, I should imagine.

You know, I can't find an image of the meccano flyover anywhere.

That was before I moved to Bristol, but I do remember visiting Bristol once when it was up. That would of been back in about 96 I think! I remember when I moved here I didn't recognise the area around Temple Meads because it had changed so much.

Indeed. I think it was still there when we stopped in Bedminster before beetling off to London.

It feels like it should be easier to remember how places were before road changes or redevelopment.
