Some number of years ago, small brother and I were taken off to Snowshill Manor by mater. I guess it's obvious now, but wandering around a large and rambling house that's filled with mad things must have had rather an effect on me.

It's a bit more popular now, but still filled with mad things. Armada chests, for one. Head-warpingly odd Japanese clocks that divide the daylight into the same number of hours throughout the year (So there aren't more daylight hours in summer, they're longer.) for another. A loft full of early bicycles for riding down one or other staircase while drunk. Clockwork bellows and a promotional cutout Queen Anne. Clocks. Rooms of them.

Then there was field recording of stationary engines. Twenties mechanical glitch masterpieces. Agricultural music for agricultural people.

On Friday, part of my past arrived and charged the food to expenses. All very fine indeed.

Today I am accountably tired, yet still emitting code. In both senses.

I like the samurai room.

Apparently, there's one room that's not open to the public: the one with a huge collection of Golden Dawn-era magical things. I'd love to get a look at that...

That place sounds most wonderful and I would like a japanese clock (I said clock!) because they sound eminently sensible.

I was thinking the same thing, there is probably a room to make a small cottage industry making them!

Reminds me of something I meant to bring to your attention - played a game of follow the brown tourist attraction sign on the way home from Leeds a couple of weeks back and ended up at a 'secret' nuclear bunker (http://www.hackgreen.co.uk/) which was amazing, harrowing and uber-steampunk all at the same time. Much of it looked like the set for some of your writings of late. Recommended.

Hope to bump into you in Whitby towards the latter half of proceedings...

Ah, yes. One of these days, I'll get around to visiting one or other of the open Rotor/RSG sites. There's a disused Rotor just down the road from Whitby, but the fake-cottage guardhouse has been badly vandalised.

Whitby? I'm pleased to say I'm avoiding the place.
