Falling asleep in a drunken heap in the damp(er) corner of Uncle Nic's front room. Somewhere there's a picture of the aftermath (taken by Steve&Abigail, IIRC) and it's not pretty.

On Cix, it was a badge of tedious geeky wossname that one wrote one's own OLR. (Off-line reader, because dialup was expensive and Cix/Bix/CoSy is/was terminal based, but there was a reasonably useful batch mode.)

Before that, I taught myself C on the Amiga by hacking a nearly-working example terminal emulator into something useful that could do XModem. FSVO 'useful', admittedly.

... The world's changed, mostly for the better. Because of the hand-crank nature of things, the people one would meet would largely be graceless spods.

In short: smoky textured, with a twist of lemon.
