You read about the terrible state of the railways and somehow it doesn't seem real. How could a notionally socialist govt. allow things to get like that? After an hour stuck outside of Lawrence hill in a non-mobile train, i begin to see. It transpired that i was in the only carriage with working aircon, which must have been jolly fun for the other inmates. Still even that couldn't save us, and after a 5 mph trundle through box tunnel, we were informed to a surly chorus of shouts that the train would terminate at Reading. The charge from one platform to the next must have been akin to the chaos at Gloucester when people changed from Brunel's broad gauge to standard gauge. I just stood back, took pictures, and then toddled into a deserted first class carriage when the train after hove into view.
Later, all the black cabs in london vanished. The 300 deep queue muttered into mobile phones and kicked their bags, rather than rioting over a broken transport system taking the piss.
Now I am bored and will experiment with the Corby trouser press.
