The Akufen CD turned up. It is fucking excellent. Lush, Ibiza-tinged, storming house/headfuck techno (depending on track) bolted together from tiny snippets of wireless. 'Microsampling', it seems to be called. There's a couple of brief samples here. It's being a damn fine few months for (re)discovering random electronic music - Tour de France Soundtracks, Up In Flames, Eurotechno, Manhattan Research, It's All Good, Op2, In Sides...

i was surprised how much subbass there is on tour de france soundtracks, i hadn't noticed until i saw them live then listened to it agai with the subwoofer on. try it on a decent pair of cans. beautiful.

Then I bunged on 'Feed me wierd things' and heard the other half of the CD for the first time...

Came across Akufen about a year or so ago in a random listening station accident in Zulu Records, got to agree about that album, definitely pressed the same buttons that Prefuse 73 (who I am sure you are familiar with) presses for me. Good to see some Canadian electronica that is really at the top of it's game rather than just a cancon favourite.
