Eh? I've heard us described as a nation of gardeners, animal lovers and tea drinkers. But scrap dealers?

Yes.

Or rather, according to the Dreadful Wikipeejah, the 'nation of shopkeepers' is from 'The wealth of nations' rather than some militaristic French chap. This leads a fellow to wonder about the set of circumstances required for 'nation of scrap-dealers' to be used instead and then speculate about the nature of a story involving same.

Perhaps some odd version of the industrial revolution which became more distributed because, um, railways got invented faster and the whole just-in-time thing happened two hundred years too early?

I don't know. I R NOT HSTRIN, I R SRS SPOD.
