I remember the first sub-£150 full-sus: it was red & yellow and came from Lidl for £149.99. They sold them in Bristol the week before the Bristol Bike Ride, so there were _lots_ of them out in the starting crush.
They were popping up by the side of the road all the way to Clevedon. Well, if by "Clevedon" we mean "Start of the motorway bridge ramp at Shitehampton". The furthest I saw one was at the top of Brockley Combe, where the chain had self-destructed a few links and they'd pushed it up. I was sat there by the water bowser (a better lunch spot than Clevedon, although you don't get ice cream) and had enough spanners and spare links (impromptu fixie conversion for a cub scout with a nadgered derailleur) to send it on its creaking and graunching way again.

Was that a kindness? I'd expect the whole sorry business to go horribly »SPANG!« on the A38 ten minutes later, with the remnants (faux bicycle and purported human) ground into the tarmac by an airport taxi.
