Excellent idea. (From here via the supercharged and fuel-injected [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker)

In an effort to head off the jokes about Ikea furniture being complicated to assemble, I should point out that it's been pretty trivial for me. The Sunday whinings from various Pollys Filla rub me up the wrong way, but then being completely useless does seem to be a positive career move vis-a-vis the ruling elite, so I can see that their shoeshine boys might want to cargo-cult that mindset.

I don't think I've ever been described as supercharged :->

It's a great site. I think I found it via a bunch of photos I was sent. I've definitely seen the spilled liquid that formed countries before.

And I've never really understood the problem with Ikea before either - the instructions are usually good if you pay attention to them, and I've rarely been missing pieces. It always feels a bit like the way that many people are with computers or mathematics - somehow proud of their ignorance.

There's that, too. Though since there are great holes in my knowlege, it would be a bit off for me to bang on about it too much.

The interesting thing (for me, anyway) about an Ikea-designed Volvo 240 is that it would be trivially hackable. (http://wiki.eth-0.nl/index.php/LackRack)

(I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to explain the history of CKD)

LackRack from domestic furniture? Real geeks keep their TV on top of some old radar racking and sit on a Cray PSU.

I, too, usually find Ikea flat-pack easy. The only time I've needed help assembling my purchases are 6 foot bookcases where I can't physically hold the whole thing together.

OTOH, putting together my futon from The Futon Company (orders of magnitude more expensive than Ikea) was far from trivial - requiring both intelligence and brute strength. The instructions were even pretty good. I can see why the delivery guy has a sideline in charging people to assemble their futons.

Some days I think I should set myself up as a professional flat-pack installer.

Hmmm.... I need to add the trebuchet (Walter shelf brackets) and Tesla coil (leg from a Mammutt kid's chair makes an ideal secondary coil former).
