The scene: Small Brother's out-laws. We are post-christening for Isobel. As is traditional, JH-R (elder) is handed small child by JH-R (younger) so pictures can be taken and you lot can make 'om nom nom' jokes on FriendFace later.
Small child becomes slightly fractious. The parents are hiding for spite. JH-R (elder, apparently) sings the only thing that comes into his head.
Yu-Gung.
Small child gurgles along.
I'm so old-school industrial I crap scaff-clamps.

Date: 2009-07-13 08:15 am (UTC)Is it me, or has Halfords gone crap? If you don't drive a blinged-up 2007 Subaru Something-or-Other, there's practically nothing useful in there these days. Eventually I had to get me spare wheel off with a pipe wrench.
Talking of noisemakers of a certain vintage: you're mentioned, in close proximity to Steve Albini, in my own LJ...

Yes. That sounds like Chicago.

Date: 2009-07-13 11:12 pm (UTC)Go back to Halfords and tell them you want to _order_ stuff. They do Facom and that also means Britool (now owned by Facom). They _CAN_ get the bits for you, and it's only a day or two. Facom are better ratchets and wrenches than Snap-on anyway. Britool still even make Whitworth (once every few years, they get the little old bloke down off the shelf and he knocks out another batch).
Otherwise Machine Mart (more Facom), otherwise eBay (many bargains there are).
Otherwise Partco (not what they used to be) and Teng, who are pretty good, except for the plastic ratchets.

Date: 2009-07-14 08:02 am (UTC)I bought a 3kw generator off them once, back when I thought I'd be welding Minis in a lock-up garage. Then I got evicted, because lock-ups are worth 20,000 quid in west London, apparently. The owner decided he'd rather have the lump sum than the rent. I had a panicky few days frantically trying to put my subframe back on and get the car into rolling condition, and find another lock-up...which I did, eventually, but it came with strict rules about not welding Minis on the premeses. I've been stalled at that point ever since.
The trouble with London is that nobody's got a tumbledown barn when you need one!
