Any of you lot had owt to do with Puppet? It seems to be a nice thing, but I'm having difficulty finding the notional Kool-Aid, let alone mixing up a 50-gallon drum of the stuff.

Yes. It's Very Nice. Thrown a load of configs in svn, bung a puppet daemon on each machine and super bishy-bashi!

Can you make it work with patch(1), or can the thing only throw canned config files at the targets?

You probably could, but the point of it is to not have to. It does token substitution, so you could put your patches in that. The right pattern would be to patch the file, bung it in svn and then let puppet push it out. Use classes in puppet to define which machines get which configs.

I'm trying to work out if the move from not-puppet to puppet can be anything other than a Flag Day. It would seem not, in that case.
