There are days when every decision is the wrong one.

Where do I go for lunch? Should I let that other car out of the side-turning or will the oncoming traffic get in the way? How do I explain to someone that while what they want is technically possible, it would quickly turn into a fragile and poorly-documented tissue of hacks?

... After a while, you start to second-guess yourself. The first idea has been turning out wrong, so drop that and go for the non-obvious option instead. Wrong.

Then you start to second-guess the second-guessing.

You are trapped in a maze of complex decision-trees, all different.

There's a circle of pale faces at the very edge of the lighted bit. There's muttering; "Ar. Bugger. I'll 'ave 'ee. You see now."

There's a Pulham's bus parked up by the stupid building in the middle of the green bit.

The dad of an ex of mine, who was once the programme commissioner for one of the old ITV production companies (so pretty senior, though I think we do have him to blame for Wycliffe), said that sometimes it was better to make a decision, than to worry overly much about making the right one.

Not sure how true it is, but for an arch-procrastinator like me it's a great motivator.

Run for bus.
Get on and start rolling fags for Giz on the back seat.

Flick V's at natives.

It depends how often the decision is a wrong one. After a while you might ralise that sometimes procrastination is the least worst option.

Gordon Brown is a notorious ditherer, and whenever he makes a snap decision it's invariably the wrong one. Unfortunately, as he only listens to two or three advisors who tend to agree with him anyway, when he procrastinates the final decision tends to be wrong as well.

You see, if FRP stuff was more like this than a load of elves and wizards and whatnot, I'd have enjoyed them so much more...

The natives are confused by the notion of diesel traction, so go and stare at a donkey wearing a hat instead.

A monkey wearing a hat comes back and bothers you for a light. Once his pipe is lit, he drives off in the direction of Stow-on-the-Wold.

A comedian in a rather fetching cocktail dress gives chase. How in hell is he managing the clutch in those heels?
