This made my month.

(And I've been agonising about mentioning it for some number of days because, well, whatever I say will either come across as remarkably smug or rude and ungracious.)

What I want to know is what you have to do with the Greenwich Village Hirez Cam.

Ahhh.
See, definitely make that one a memory and look at it in low moments.

Pah. What's LJ, if not a vast networked machine made of oscarwildery ? Revel in it.

I believe you have hit the metallic wood-fixing device firmly upon its upper striking surface.

I must admit to having been, um, somewhat down of late, and that was a useful boot out of the pit. As it were.

I think the British thing to do would have been to "accidentally" link through to it from some other conversation :*)

And I hope this thing of using elemental symbols for mood and music continues, if only so I can find out what an 'UnNullQuadium' mood is like.

Yes, put in the memories to refer to in the future.

So, it's not just me who likes what you have to say.
;P

Glad to have been of service!

Now will you all *please* vacate my journal and start a HIREZ appreciation society elsewhere!
*chuckle*

I should think so too.
Now, Hirez. Would you like to be oddity monitor or a 'playground buddy'?
If you choose to be the latter you'll get to wear a yellow cap and teach the other children lots of skipping games.

Oddity Monitor, I think. Yellow just isn't my colour...

I mean, it's not like I'm short oddities. Strange Things seem to seek me out and want to be my best mate and buy me real ale in some poorly-lit pub where the rooms all have the wrong number of walls and there's some jazz combo in the corner sawing away at their instruments. When the combo had finally reduced the instruments to a pile of firewood, they wandered off and occupied the saloon bar in the name of Enver Hoxha and demanded that it be flown to Cuba. Or, failing that, Burnham-on-Sea.

What, throw away a lifetime of self-hatred and 'best take the piss out of myself to save others doing it'? I've tended these neuroses man and boy - see what fine and twisted things they are. 'twould be a terrible shame to pitch them away in a moment of caprice and emerge, blinking in the light of Good Fellowship, as a Changed Person. (I mean, the Changed Person might be a terrible bore - going around smiling at people all the time - the populace would rise up and drive him out with staves and pitchforks for being smug and unbearable.)

... Or do you perhaps mean I should attempt a living writing amusing stories of a speculative or scientific nature?

I read Electrolite/Making Light - I know when I'm pushing water uphill with a rake...

I suspect you could have a fine career at just about anything you set out to do (mad-scientist, professional writer, musician, anything!).

You should always go with what works best for you. :)

Fear not about the staves and pitchforks ... they use more conventional weapons now. ;P

What works best for me? Hackery.

I stopped being a computer-spod for a year to try my hand at a psychology degree a few years ago. Me and education still weren't a good fit. Still, at least I tried it...
