On a whim... Well, not so much a whim as a... I'm not quite sure. What order does it go in? Whim, lark ... something or other ... adventure, expedition, campaign?
Anyway. Not a whim because I stuffed clothing in a backpack and stashed multitool, spare tube and CO2 inflator in the saddlebag last night. I was also fully aware that the weather was likely going to be unpleasant in the morning.
So. Cold, sporadic rain and a headwind. Still circa five minutes quicker on the Nice Bike. It's squirmy as a squirmy thing over wetmanpersonhole covers, but I was going to swap out the tyres for something kevlar-lined and grippy anyway.
The grotty weather seemed to have put most people off, but the only bloke to come past made a great show of leaning on his aero-bars and time-trialling into the distance.
I'll probably get a fresh cold tomorrow and be relegated to the septic cattle cars again.

Date: 2008-04-11 05:29 pm (UTC)That said, I've got a pair of Avocet tires with kevlar and they are very lovely indeed. Or at least I think they're kevlar, their website doesn't list any such animal and I have a hard time believing they'd put a mildly exotic material into something without putting neon lights around it on their website. In any event: Avocet tires = very nice.

Date: 2008-04-14 10:23 pm (UTC)And then, THEN, I find out you're a biker! A pedal biker!. Man, what are the odds?
Bianchi. Campag. Third Cat. This year is a year off to do half marathon running after being hit by a car last year. Maybe next year will be Triathlon time.

Date: 2008-04-14 10:55 pm (UTC)And ow, bastard. Near misses with cars only thus far. This year's plan is the Circuit of the Cotswolds (because if I'm going to expire in a heap, it may as well be where I grew up. And I know where all the good pubs used to be.) and maybe the Dynamo if I've recovered.
