On a whim... Well, not so much a whim as a... I'm not quite sure. What order does it go in? Whim, lark ... something or other ... adventure, expedition, campaign?

Anyway. Not a whim because I stuffed clothing in a backpack and stashed multitool, spare tube and CO2 inflator in the saddlebag last night. I was also fully aware that the weather was likely going to be unpleasant in the morning.

So. Cold, sporadic rain and a headwind. Still circa five minutes quicker on the Nice Bike. It's squirmy as a squirmy thing over wet manpersonhole covers, but I was going to swap out the tyres for something kevlar-lined and grippy anyway.

The grotty weather seemed to have put most people off, but the only bloke to come past made a great show of leaning on his aero-bars and time-trialling into the distance.

I'll probably get a fresh cold tomorrow and be relegated to the septic cattle cars again.

According to my training program, I've got to do 3.5 hours pedalling tomorrow. What's the betting I stay dry.

PS, sounds like a nice bike -what is is?

Do let us know when you find some - I can only get either/or.

Try some of that Vicks 'First Defence'. I've been taking it at the first sign of a sniffle and so far (touch wood) I'm germ free. It hurts a bit though!

hurts a bit? ah good, I thought that was just me!

random success here - I kept meaning to use it prior to doing the flying thing, but keep on forgetting till I've landed.

A Giant SCR2. Not at the silly money end by any stretch.

It's a gel that you spray up your nose. It makes you sneeze and it stings quite a bit - but it does seem to work.

I've gotten all weird and superstitious about riding in the rain. I've either gotten annoying flats or gone for a fun little knee & elbow scraping when not actively being dumb. There's so little rain out here in Californialand that it tends to put interesting things in the road when there is some.

That said, I've got a pair of Avocet tires with kevlar and they are very lovely indeed. Or at least I think they're kevlar, their website doesn't list any such animal and I have a hard time believing they'd put a mildly exotic material into something without putting neon lights around it on their website. In any event: Avocet tires = very nice.

I first read that as "spare lube" and wondered what you were up to! I hope the weather cooperates for you soon.

Wow. I added you after [livejournal.com profile] miss_soap's Monday night post. Because, well, it seemed the right thing to do in common company.

And then, THEN, I find out you're a biker! A pedal biker!. Man, what are the odds?

Bianchi. Campag. Third Cat. This year is a year off to do half marathon running after being hit by a car last year. Maybe next year will be Triathlon time.

Hello.

Hello.

And ow, bastard. Near misses with cars only thus far. This year's plan is the Circuit of the Cotswolds (because if I'm going to expire in a heap, it may as well be where I grew up. And I know where all the good pubs used to be.) and maybe the Dynamo if I've recovered.
