Google maps on yr mobile. It's not the OS, but it's a jolly nice toy.

It is - and works very nicely on my k800i. Be warned, though - if you haven't noticed already, it chomps through enormous amounts of data for a mobile app (certainly the latest release of it now tells you how much it is downloading!).

It had chewed the battery before the data started to get expensive. Mind, that one's on 3, so I think the data charges should be less eye-watering than, say, Voda.

Yeah, I made the mistake of using it in the States and Orange's data rates aren't cheap when abroad. My bill for the month went from the usual £40 to a scary £120! :-/

Mgmaps (http://www.mgmaps.com) is way cooler, and often more useful, but Google are sourpusses and took their ball away.

If you have GPS, it uses that.

If not, it uses some GSM cell ID lookup fantasticness :)

Works intermittently on my N95 (Well to be fair it downloads maps and lets me zoom in and out and wander around perfectly, just very patchy at getting my location from the cell info) and not at all on my work Blackberry.

Now, anyone got a magic way to get my Garmin Etrex Vista to talk to my phone? ;)

Not to mention, if it works via triangulation rather than GPS, it can get you very lost indeed.

We asked it for directions to food in New Jersey at some unholy hour. It directed us about a mile down the road, which didn't seem too bad after a few beers.

We ended up walking down a very long very dark road for nearly an hour and found ourselves outside Giants stadium. No sign of wherever it was supposed to be directing us to. Impressed...not.

Bluetooth? NMEA? Holding them very close together and shouting at them?

Not sure I'd like to be roaming New Jersey in the wee small hours, Manhattan's OK, but New Jersy? I must admit I've never used it as a navigation device over and above as a map.
