I'm from too far south to use words like 'gobshite' in anything other than an ironic sense, so I'm just going to assemble some words.

I don't know what the generation of wannabe Mancunians who were 'mad fer it, like' will think, but for us pre-Smiths angst-ridden teenage miserablist malcontents, Tony Wilson was the bloke who put out all the good records that Peelie played.

And now they're both gone, and just y'know...Fuck.

For us slightly older gits, he put punk bands on the telly in 'So It Goes'. He was a bit of a twat but definitely a heroic twat and his passing has made me quite unsmiley.

Doh - should take note of post titles. I've failed miserably in finding out if he was also responsible for The Oxford Road Show due to being waylaid by Orm & Cheep on TV Cream.

Oh and Morley and Madeley trying to out-earnest each other on the Newsnight obit was class.

I fear so. I suspect [livejournal.com profile] swisstone was there first with the news.

ORS was the beeb, wasn't it? I seem to recall watching A Flock of Haircuts Seagulls on there. Shit. And the Farmer's Boys. (Although it could have been the Tube or Switch or...)

Damn. I wish I'd remembered to watch that. I mean, Madeley?

The announcement by earthquake (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/6940546.stm) was a nice touch.

Diva told me about his passing this morning, to which my reaction was "Oh shit." I mean, we knew it was coming, but... yeah. Fuck.

(Later, after faffing with Beardy-Branson's magical tellybox thing)

Newsnight. Yes.

Saville looks like a strange combination of Lee and Herring.

Seeing the footage of him on that piece on Newsnight was saddening and heartening.

He looked so old and frail...
...then he opened his gob:-)

FAC 512 for the headstone?

"Heroic Twat" seems to be the right phrase for the guy. I think I can forgive any Hero the occasional outburst of Twattery.
