The clearly splendid types over at Lineout Records are giving away a(n) MP3 by the new model ELRmy (Yes, I read the NME in the 80s. I can handle it.) and it's very fine racket indeed. Howling guitars and lush production values. I am very much looking forward to seeing them in action on Friday night. (Is it sold out yet?)

Otherwise I've been having a wonder about that there fashion thing. The only sleeveless things you generally (for very small values of 'generally') see for blokes are g*th/metal t-shirts that have been hand-modified and wifebeater vests, and those are just underwear with an attitude problem. For the wimmins[1] everything comes in sleeveless (angle-grinders, pianos, sideboards with matching nests of tables. Everything.) as well as fully-sleeved. I can sort of vaguely see that in some sort of fashion-tradition manner, especially the 3/4 sleeved variant. I'd either be pushing the things up or pulling them down. Er. Probably. Were I given to wearing that sort of thing. Anyway.

However, it makes no sense at all for technical clothing. Either you want maximum wicking coverage and/or protection from the elements, or you don't. Gender presentation has bog-all to do with it. (Unless there's some complicated effect with sweat production in different areas that I wot not.) Yet blokes get the cap sleeves and the wimmins do without. Huh?

Wossatallabahtden, geezah?

Hmm, I have bought sleeveless T-shirts from Primark for cycling in summer, when getting breeze to skin is important but so is covering unsightly beergut.

Ye-es. But were they generic cotton or something technical?

Generic cotton, though I expect that if I do upgrade to more technical cycling fabrics, I'd be looking for a similar cut.

You have utterly lost me in a way that makes me ponder if Mark E has taken over Top Man today and I missed the announcement. I am happy in my little world of muslin and worsted where only horses have to ponder about sweat.

As I attempt to point out, you'll be lucky. Unless you go for triathlon togs.

That's a shame. I do usually strive for lucidity.

I wonder what percentage of people buying "performance" clothing actually care only about the performance and how many would at least like a little nod to fashion, as well, please. Unless you're at the mortgage-inducing professsional performance clothing (for clowns?), when one assumes the purchasers care only about the extra nanosecond they can shave from their cycling time, I suspect that the the percentage is actually quite small.

That'll be Assos (http://www.assos.com/en/) who seem to manage both startling expense and a fair degree of gender neutrality.

You're probably right though. Perhaps it is just down to shielding the populace from the average blokey armpit.

Still seems odd, though. It seems to me that there's an expectation (modulo Assos) that women want/require/are allowed less covering.

Unless I'm seeing things that aren't there due to preconceptions.

Adidas do a sleeveless, gender-neutral, wicking top. I know because I own one. :)

Gig not sold out. Venue's capacity is... surprising, ie, were i in charge of regulations, it would be, but since I'm in charge of recouping debt, there will be some on the door, yes. official post follows this kebab.

Some queen or other, probably yours, was at one stage offended by hairy naval armpits, and lo, the t-shirt was born.

I was buying the thin black sleveless vests from marks and sparks - til they changed the design and made them wife beater like - but maybe they have changed them back again?

otherwise decathlon sells very cheap gym vests that look rather cool, in a 90s goth kinda way. I couldn't find it on the site, but i found this (http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/Product_arborescence/running/running/men-running-app/m-running-cloth/product_8021696/index.html)

I would love to have a lab coat with 3/4 length sleeves. I only ever wear a lab coat when I need to intimidate small children, but it usually backfires since the sleeves hang down below my fingertips, leaving me with few options except:
  • Cash in those buy 9 get the 10th free sessions on the London Dungeon rack
  • "Hey you, kid, you hold this dangerously frothing beaker."
  • Roll the sleeves up

Besides, one wants to showcase the illusion of a dainty wrist for science.

Is that because your average lab coat is sized for someone like The Cursing Chemist, who is, um, a big lad?

Otherwise, I shall re-arrange my assumptions in re. gender (presentation) specific clothing.

I've got one short sleeve cycling top, mostly bought because it was grey + red instead of covered with logos, it's by Gordini.
The problem with it was that I got a *really* bad sunburn on my tricep area on one long ride, and ever since I've been searching for a long sleeved *light* cycling top that I can wear in the summer. I despise 3/4 length and cap sleeves, but I've got issues with my arms. :)

removal of underarm hair may have something to do with it, perchance?

some people do appear to have rather lengthy armpit topiary which stands out particularly when the top is cut to ride right across the middle of it, pushing it out in all directions..

anyway, it means sleeveless is an alt-option and thus way cooler than proper clothes.
